... And we're no longer off and running.

Well, that was fast. And painful.

To keep my game development issues to a minimum, I decided to upgrade from XNA Game Studio 3.0 to the current XNA Game Studio 3.1 in order to avoid mid-project compatibility errors.

First, I tried the XNA GS 3.1 installer. But it wouldn't let me install without first uninstalling XNA GS 3.0. So I removed the previous version and proceeded. That resulted in error messages while trying to open my old 3.0 projects under 3.1.

Confused, I uninstalled 3.1 and tried to revert back to 3.0. And now, while trying to install either 3.0 or 3.1, I'm getting a random error in the midst of installation that causes the installer to roll back the entire installation.

I'm currently researching the issue on Microsoft's various websites, but it appears to be that least favorite kind of issue: obscure registry key errors that can only be fixed by going through the registry and fixing some random thing. You know... the kind of error that can only be precipitated against a small, relatively self-sufficient breed of programmer that's willing to put up with this bullshit.

So, I'm out of the game programming business until I can sort through Microsoft's stupid bullshit and fix it for them.
